Specialist Vehicles by Air & Ocean

March 22, 2010  |   News

A little known fact about SFS is that we regularly undertake specialist movements for all types of cargo, including exporting motor vehicles by air or sea, or indeed in a combination movement using both.

We have moved stretched Range Rovers for the Saudi Royal Family, a prototype carbon fibre Corvette from the USA for an exhibition in France, specialist surveillance vehicles for the Armed Forces, oh and just some plain old supercharged sports cars!

The purchaser of the vehicle required an air/sea combination in a carefully planned operation to move from London to Singapore by air, and onward by sea to Jakarta, Indonesia.

We flew the vehicle to Singapore and, using the services of Blue Water Shipping in Singapore, our Cruise & Marine Logistic Network co-founding partner, we transferred the 5.2 Litre V10 into a 20’ ocean container for onward transport to Jakarta Port.

Within hours of arrival in Singapore we have the vehicle transfered to the 20' container

Safely Secured - the vehicles must be strapped carefully to ensure no movement in transit

Once the vehicle has been offloaded from the freighter aircraft, our team in Singapore unloaded it from the aircraft pallet, loaded onto a car transporter and transferred to a bonded warehouse for transhipment into a 20’ sea container. The operation requires careful planning to ensure transhipment onto the first available vessel departing Singapore in order to attain the optimum transit time to final destination. From loading in the UK, to arrival in Jakarta, the whole operation took just 9 days, an improvement from the standard 26 day port to port transportation time, preferred for economical advantage.

The R8 is stowed and strapped, ready for its onward journey to Jakarta by sea.

The movement was a great success, one of many that our operation team have overseen in recent years.
