Snowstorms hit QM2 delivery in New York

January 09, 2010  |   News

Whilst the UK suffered from one of the worst winters in years, with snow covering the majority of the UK, our New York warehouse was preparing a multi truck delivery of urgent spares, hotel stores and most importantly, New Year Ballroom decorations for the Cunard vessel “Queen Mary 2”  in Brooklyn, New York, as a category 2 blizzard hit the North East of the USA.

Heavy snow in New York

It was Sunday December 20th 2009 and severe weather conditions, with several feet of drifts after heavy snowfall began to fall at midnight and ran through to 7:30 AM threatened the movement of 3 trucks booked for delivery to the Queen Mary 2.

Only two drivers were able to get into the warehouse because of travel conditions – namely 14 inches of snow! The two drivers, Peter and Dennis were able to make the first run with 2 trucks, Dennis then returned to switch trucks and finish the 3rd delivery and pickup return items, travelling through treacherous conditions.

All the deliveries and pick ups were completed by the afternoon, which was really amazing considering the condition of the roads. The fortunate part was that it was a Sunday and most people sensibly stayed off the roads. The crew onboard the vessel were suprised and obviously delighted that we had made it through, and the ballroom was decorated as planned for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
